At Tulane, Family Weekend is combined with Homecoming and Reunions for a very special community celebration for students, parents and alumni. Join us November 3-5 for Wave '17!
Some Family Weekend events require advance registration and a fee payment, but many activities are free and open to students, parents and alumni. Parents and other family members will be able to purchase tickets for the Homecoming football game in Yulman Stadium. Current students' tickets in the student section are already included in their activity fees so they can pick those up at no additional cost before the game by showing their Tulane ID card. Online registration/payment for the game and other fee-based events typically opens for parents in early August. We’ll email parents a customized log in and link to the registration site when it opens.
Check back in late July for a detailed schedule for Homecoming/Reunions/Family Weekend 2017. In the meantime, we urge you to make your lodging reservations as soon as possible, since the fall is a busy tourism and convention season in New Orleans. Use the Tulane Travel Portal to make reservations with local hotels and bed and breakfast inns and receive a reduced rate for Tulane affiliates.
More details will be posted in early summer, but here is an example of what will be offered during the weekend:
Friday: If you can arrive Thursday night or Friday morning, you may join us for breakfast with the Dean of Newcomb-Tulane College. Join your student for Family Weekend Jazz Brunch in Bruff Commons dining hall. Students have a regular class day on Friday, so we have special offerings in the afternoon just for parents including academic open houses, campus resource tours, special lectures, author talks and more.
Spirited Homecoming activities begin in the late afternoon with a carnival, food trucks, pep rally and music on the quad. We'll end the night with our Fifth Annual Family Weekend A Cappella Concert in McAlister Auditorium featuring 5 student groups: Green Envy, THEM, TULA (Tulane University Ladies A Cappella), TU Tones & NJBeats.
Saturday: Tailgating on the LBC Quad and Newcomb Quad will begin four hours before the Homecoming football game. Be sure to stop by the big Parent Tent to visit with other families. Due to television broadcast scheduling, the kickoff time may not be announced until 10 – 7 days before the game date.
Sunday: We usually keep our formal programming on Sunday a bit light so that you can enjoy exploring our campus and the city with your student at your own pace. For fun ideas to customize your family's weekend, check out our list of links to New Orleans tours, historic sites, cultural attractions and recreational activities.
We look forward to seeing you in November at Wave '17!
